Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning OR Evaporative?
Which one is better? Please help!
Evaporative A/C is completely useless on humid days it actually makes the situation even worse. It can only be used for cooling so you can only use it for a small part of the year also its effectiveness is highly dependant on the humidity on the day.
You have to have windows and/or doors open sufficiently enough in order to have a constant airflow through the room(s) otherwise the humidity would get too high and you will have mould growing in the room(s) just the for the same reason why mould grows in bathrooms. If there is smoke, smells or embers outside they will be sucked in by the A/C. If you live along the east coast of Australia forget evaporative, as the climate is considered unsuitable.
Evaporative does have one big advantage and that it is considerably cheaper to run than refrigerated A/C.
Refrigerated A/C’s are heat pumps they pump heat into or out of (a) room(s).
Windows and/or doors must be closed.
Reverse cycle refrigerated A/C can be used all year round. With a suitably sized A/C you can set the temperature to what you want e.g. 24 Deg C and that is what you will get in the room(s) all year round.
For heating refrigerated A/C is very cost effective only natural gas heating works out cheaper to use.
ADDITIONAL
It’s not rubbish you most certainly can get mould with evaporative A/C if not careful that’s why windows have to be kept open and on humid days the water shutoff or the evaporative A/C turned off.
