I have a modified sine wave inverter, rated at 1000 watts. When my battery bank is fresh off the charger or in float mode, the door opens fine, but the instant my charge drops below 90% or so, my garage door opener stall out, and it won't open/close reliably. Do I have to use a pure sine wave inverter? Could I buy a larger modified sine wave inverter and use that? Why isn't this working!!!
I think the problem is the surge (load spike) that an electric motor puts out when it is starting up. This surge is most likely exceeding the available wattage of the inverter when its input power is not at 100%. I think you need a higher rated inverter for this application.
