My furnace went out and I was told that is was because the High Limit Switch was 6 inches long and the tip was touching the flame and also the fuse had blown. I was told that it should only be 2 inches long.
The high limit switch shuts down the furnace if it gets too hot. If you could give a make and model # that would help. The fact that it went out is reason for concern because it might indicate a possible fire / safety hazzard. If you are not sure , call the man. The thermocouple is not related to the limit switch at all. The fact that it blew the breaker is of more concern. Is the blower working?
