On a oil furnace what does the electronic aquastat do?
On a oil furnace what does the electronic aquastat do? Can it be burned out by running out of oil? I rent and the landlord didn't tell us we were almost out of oil now this thing burned out and he wants us to foot the three hundred dollar bill, is it my fault it broke?
If you have an aquastat, you must have a boiler (not really a furnace, which is normally forced air) since it is a water thermostat.
Running out of oil will not damage an aquastat. Never really heard it referred to as an electronic aquastat, but it may be electronic as opposed to standard electric, but you wouldn't damage it nonetheless. sounds like you are being fed a line of crap.
Ask for a copy of the repair invoice to see what the problem was. If you ran out of oil, the burner would just shut down and not come back on until it is manually reset at the burner. It will not re-fire if there is no oil.
