hw to hook up a pellet stove?
Is hooking up a pellet stove hard? can I run the chim. about 20' before it goes outside? Is this something i should hire someone for?
Most municipalities require pellet or wood stoves and fireplaces to meet all applicable standards for chimney material, spacing/clearance, hearth size and type, etc. You may be able to do yourself but your will need to read up on the requirements and be sure the installation is inspected.
Your house insurance company may require even greater assurance by, for example, in Canada many firms require installation by a WETT certified installer.
I'd suggest checking first the installation instructions for the stove you are considering (part of the manual often available on-line) to assess the difficulty. Second check local bylaws and third check with your insurance company.
I'm pretty handly and could have tackled the job myself but I chose to have my woodstove professionally installed. ... and I'm glad I did. After all, you don't want to risk burning your house down, and installation can risk house integrity finding the right path for a chimney, etc. I felt much more confident having had a WETT certified installation.
