Portable Dehumidifier
Anyone using a "portable" home AC / heater unit?
I'm thinking of purchasing one of the "newest" designs in a long list of these portable(on wheels) type AC / heater.
These look very similar to large dehumidifiers.
They have many more choices available now , and the prices have come down too since they first came into stores.
These all have to be vented out of a window with a "kit" that is included. They use a 4 inch flexible dryer hose.They now range in BTU output from 7,000 to 14,000!All digital controls and of course a remote control !! lol
And yet they are so efficient they still run on 120 volts and draw about 10-12 Amps.
I need the large (14K) for my application. They are $550.
I have no problem spending that amount if these perform as
promised. Sooooo......finally my question> does anyone have one of these ? Are you satisfied with it? What brand did you choose? Thanks!! Sorry for being a little lengthy !
I don't have one but I know someone who does. It is nothing more than a window unit on wheels. It cools one room at a time.You cannot hide the hose. It rises up past the top of the unit to reach the window. It looks ridiculous. If you do not mind ugly then this is for you.
If you want a better alternative (to me anyway) go to www.walmart.com and type air cooler in the search box. Air coolers are the same size as portable ac units and do no not have a hose. You fill it with one gallon of water every eight hours and cools as well as an AC unit. If the water runs out the fan continues to blow air.
Air coolers are less than $100.00 each, use only the same electric as a fan (huge electric bill savings), are portable, cheap and efficient.
Buy on line from walmart they will ship it free to any store you choose. For the money you spend on one portable ac unit you can have five air coolers.
