1980 dodge 4x4 318cu/in coud a water pump work only when it feels like it?the v belt is fine,with thermostat there is presher &without no presher?
Chevy guy is 100% correct. Replace the thermostat. The engine will not heat up and have no way to cool down. A dodge is designed to run hotter than most. The engineers designed the thermostat to open and close as it is needed. It will cool the motor down when it opens and closes off when it has cooled. This give the water in the radiator time to do its job by colling down that water.
