Quiet Air
I am planning to join the air force but I am really shy,quiet, and timid is it a good idea to join?
Do you guys think I will get picked a lot by the drill sergeant or will it make me stronger?
Ok, i would definately describe myself as quiet, timid and shy. As long as you can do what you ahve to and keep up, you should be fine.. Just make sure you can "roll with" anything they throw at you.
If they do say something to you, dont take it personally "its just business" they're just trying to make sure you're not going to crack under pressure...
i flew through basic and AIT with out ever having any problems. Im quiet and i stay out of trouble. to be honest, my DS couldnt even tell me my name when i shook his hand at graduation.
Here's where it was an issue for me.
In order to get promoted you have to go before a board. that means standing infront of a group of your superiors and answering questions about the military and your job, while maintaining military bearing...
i struggled with finding my voice and not panicing when being put on the spot..
being in the army has DEFINATELY helped me "come out of my shell" a bit... but it did come at a cost...
the first time i went before i board i got myself so worked up, i threw up... needless to say i had to work a while longer before i got promoted...
i would tell you to make sure military service is what you want, then go for it... dont let being shy keep you from something that maybe the best experience of youre life.
