RegulatorGauge '98 Ford E150 Van alternator gauge reads 17 volts and is two years old?
The battery is less than 6 months old. Why is the gauge reading so high? I don't want to buy another alternator or battery...could it be the voltage regulator or something else?

An overcharging system can "COOK" the battery in no time.
Probably is the voltage regulator.
May be internal in the alternator.
Get it repaired ASAP.
